KANSAS CITY, MO – Tyrann Mathieu and The Tyrann Mathieu Foundation hand delivered 32 (a nod to his jersey number) surprise gift baskets to very well-deserving teachers in the Kansas City metropolitan area...and THREE of the 32 are USD 231 teachers!!!
- Renee Nonamaker, First Grade Teacher at Nike Elementary
- Josh Johnson, Social Studies Teacher at Gardner Edgerton High School
- Kerri Kueser, Mathematics Teacher at Gardner Edgerton High School
Mathieu and the Tyrann Mathieu Foundation hosted Tyrann’s Teachers over the past several weeks through the foundation’s website where students, colleagues, friends, and family got the chance to submit their favorite teacher by writing an essay explaining how great their teacher is and the positive impact they have left on the Kansas City community.
All 32 teachers were very surprised. A handful of them got emotional after learning they have been selected as one of the top 32 teachers from hundreds of essay submissions.
“Teachers are some real-life heroes who deserve recognition. They work tirelessly to lead our children as they make learning fun and exciting, while encouraging students to grow,” said Super Bowl Champion, Tyrann Mathieu of the Kansas City Chiefs. “I wanted these teachers to know their hard work hasn’t gone unnoticed, especially after navigating through virtual learning during the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020.”
Tyrann partnered with a handful of companies to help pull off the surprise for Teacher Appreciation week with contributions from: Best of KC, Dave & Busters, Kansas City Zoo, Extreme Grand Prix, Shake Shack, Mano’s Wine, Smokehouse BBQ and many more.
Congratulations Renee, Josh, and Kerri!!!
