Please take time to carefully review each link provided in the bulleted list found below.

As of today, we are planning for students who choose to attend in-person learning to start on September 9. Students who are enrolling for remote learning will also begin on September 9. All students will participate in a virtual Meet the Teacher event on September 8. Building administrators will send more details as the date approaches. As shared earlier, this model may change in the coming weeks.

Lastly, the district’s weekly curbside meals will continue through Monday, August 24. "Kid-less" pickup of meals are still available and all children ages 1-18 eat for FREE. Be sure to follow Nutrition Services on Facebook (@usd231nutrition) for the most up-to-date information.

Please find shared the results of the Family Survey designed to collect information regarding the Continuous Learning Plan (spring 2020) and parents comfort level related to an in-person return to school in August of 2020. The data presented does not include open-ended responses as they contain personally identifiable information, such as parent questions/concerns related to their child with underlying health conditions. This survey was open from June 23, 2020 through June 29, 2020. To view the results, click HERE.

July 9, 2020

Good afternoon, GEHS Seniors and Families.

We are writing today to provide updates related to the Class of 2020 graduation ceremony to be held at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 25, 2020.

Please know we continue to plan for both an in-person and virtual graduation. Our hope, like yours, is that we host this event at the District Athletic Complex (DAC).

It is important to know the protocols we will follow if the ceremony is in-person and details if we are forced to host the event virtually.

In-Person Ceremony

In order to ensure the safety of students, staff, and family, and based on health department guidance related to large public gatherings, we must be diligent about limiting crowd size and maintaining social distance.

As you are aware, conditions are changing on a daily basis. Accordingly, the protocols listed below are still being finalized.

  • All staff, students, parents, and guests will be required to wear a mask at all times while in the stadium.
  • To maintain social distance, the number of individuals allowed into the venue will be reduced. As a result, each graduate will be provided with four (4) tickets to attend the outdoor ceremony. Information related to ticket distribution date(s)/time(s) will be communicated in the near future. Family groups will need to be seated together and there will be a minimum six foot distance between family groups.
  • Students will be on the field, arranged six feet apart.

Even though we will not be able to practice prior to July 25, Mr. Meyer will communicate with students and families to address protocols for the ceremony.

The graduation ceremony will be live streamed and available to watch online for anyone unable to attend. We encourage those in high risk categories to stay home and watch the live broadcast.

Virtual Ceremony

As shared at the beginning of this email, our hope is that the graduation ceremony will be in-person; however, we will be prepared to host a virtual event. As we shared in May, in the event that a virtual ceremony is our only option, we will make every effort to ensure that it is unique and follows the format of the traditional graduation agenda. Mr. Meyer, the selected student speaker, Mr. Radel, the faculty representative, and Superintendent Stranathan will celebrate you, and your tremendous milestone.

As we gather more information, we will continue to keep you informed.

Please continue to stay safe! We miss you!
